Good afternoon and welcome back to the Poplar Insulation Stadium for today’s Jewson Western League – Premier Division fixture against Bovey Tracey. A warm welcome to their players, management, officials and supporters who have made the journey up from Devon, and we hope you enjoy your afternoon at Ironmould Lane.
This is our first meeting with Bovey this season and, following their promotion, their first campaign at this level. They’ve made a competitive start too, currently sitting 13th with 10 points from their opening 10 games, while we sit 17th with 7 points from 9. At this early stage the table remains incredibly tight – just three points separate us, so today represents another important opportunity to keep moving in the right direction.
Last Saturday brought another enjoyable afternoon at Ironmould Lane as we progressed in the FA Vase with a 3–1 victory over Sharpness. Goals from Spike Weaver, Ben Withey and Matt Wearne secured our place in the First Round Proper and continued what has already been an enjoyable cup journey.
The draw now sends us back to familiar surroundings at Shepton Mallet on Saturday 10 October. We enjoyed an outstanding result there earlier this season, but we certainly won’t be taking anything for granted. The opportunity to progress further in a national competition is an exciting one for the players, supporters and club as a whole, and hopefully plenty of you will make the trip with us.
Our Reserves also got their competitive campaign off to a winning start, returning from Easton Cowboys with an excellent 2–1 victory. After the work that has gone into building this new group, it’s great to see them start the season with three points and hopefully that gives them something to build upon.
There have also been a few departures from our First Team squad this week. Change is part and parcel of football, particularly as squads begin to settle in the early months of a season, but I’d like to thank each of the boys moving on for the effort and commitment they’ve shown while representing Brislington. They leave with our thanks and very best wishes at their new clubs.
We’ve got plenty of football at Ironmould Lane over the next week. We’re back here on Tuesday evening, when Southern League side Larkhall Athletic visit us in the Somerset FA Premier Cup, before another home game next Saturday as we welcome Brixham AFC and return to Western League action.

For the 2026/27 season, our Art and Design Residency team went back through the club archive to explore that history — looking at the kits, patterns and details that have shaped Brislington's identity over the decades.
The Home Kit celebrates 70 years of Briz wearing stripes. Different stripe widths reference the many variations worn throughout the club's history, while a retro tape pattern draws from the historic BFC banner. Text details, a classic collar and a subtle pinstripe reference the quartered kit worn by Brislington in 1957.
The Away Kit looks directly to that 1957 original, reinterpreting its colours and quarter design together with another reference, the gold and black 50th anniversary kit — bringing those colours back into the Brislington palette.
The Home Goalkeeper Kit continues the celebration of our local creative history, with a bold design created in collaboration with St Anne's House, reflecting the relationship between Briz and the creative community around us.
All three kits are made by VX3, combining archival references with contemporary cuts and construction.
This campaign is about where those shirts belong: with the people of Brislington and the wider BS4 community.

The Moorlanders win the South Devon League Herald Cup, an early landmark in the club’s honours list.

A South Devon League title earns promotion into the South West Peninsula League structure.
Following league reorganisation, Bovey Tracey move into the South West Peninsula League Premier Division East.
Premier East champions with 82 points and +108 goal difference, earning promotion to the Western League.

Brislington FC was reborn in 1956 through an Under-16 side managed by former player Bill Parsons. Three county cups quickly followed, before the club steadily climbed into senior football and the Somerset Senior League.
The post-war story began at Arnos Court Park in the Bristol Church of England League. Success came rapidly: Brislington won the Somerset Intermediate Cup in 1961–62, retained it in 1962–63 and added the Somerset Junior Cup in 1963–64.
By 1965 the club had reached the Senior Division of the Bristol and Suburban League. A Somerset FA Senior Cup final followed in 1966–67, ending in a 3–1 defeat to Chard Town.
During the 1970s Brislington entered the Somerset Senior League, winning its League Cup in 1976–77 and finishing Premier Division runners-up in 1979–80. A further second-place finish in 1984–85 signalled that a major breakthrough was getting closer.
The club’s rise accelerated dramatically. The 1988–89 league-and-cup double secured Western League football, before another historic double in 1994–95 carried Brislington into the Premier Division.
In 1988–89 Brislington won the Somerset Senior League Premier Division and the Somerset FA Senior Cup. Promotion to the Great Mills Western League followed, while the Reserves and A Team also moved into stronger competition.
Six seasons later, the First Team won the 1994–95 First Division title by 11 points and lifted the Senior Cup after defeating Bridgwater Town on penalties.
Floodlights and the Park Pets Stand were added, enabling promotion to the Premier Division. Within six years, Brislington had progressed from Somerset Senior League champions to a top-flight Western League club.
Brislington became an established Premier Division presence: third in 1999–2000, runners-up and Les Phillips Cup finalists in 2002–03, before chairman Fred Hardwell led the club into its 50th-anniversary season and a special heritage kit.
After reaching the Premier Division, Brislington established itself as a competitive Western League club. The 1999–2000 side finished third, closely behind Taunton Town and Mangotsfield United.
The club went closer in 2002–03, finishing league runners-up and reaching the Les Phillips Cup final. Managerial changes followed, but former player Nigel Gillard helped steady the side and Jamie Patch later returned as First Team Manager.
Fred Hardwell succeeded Mike Richardson as chairman in 2005–06. Two seasons later, the club marked its 50th anniversary with a heritage kit celebrating its roots.
The Ladies Team was formed, ties with Brislington Juniors strengthened and success spread across the club. The era also brought profound sadness with the passing of chairman Fred Hardwell.
A Ladies Team was formed in 2011–12 as Brislington developed into a broader, more connected club. Closer links with Brislington Juniors strengthened the pathway through the organisation.
Chairman Fred Hardwell sadly passed away in 2012–13 after a battle with cancer. His contribution remains an important part of the club’s identity and is remembered with great affection.
That season the First Team finished Premier Division runners-up, although ground standards prevented promotion. The Ladies completed a remarkable treble: Somerset County League champions, League Cup winners and Somerset FA Junior Cup winners.
In 2013–14 the First Team reached the final qualifying round of the FA Cup—the club’s best-ever run—while the Ladies retained the Junior Cup and earned promotion to the South West Women’s League Premier Division.
COVID brought financial strain and the loss of teams. Voluntary relegation followed—but so did an emphatic response: 130 goals, a Division One title and a dramatic play-off return to the Premier Division.
The pandemic placed major financial and logistical pressure on the club. Both the Ladies and Reserve teams were disbanded, and by the end of 2021–22 rising travel costs led Brislington to accept voluntary relegation.
The response was emphatic. Brislington won the 2022–23 Division One title after scoring 130 goals and reached the Les Phillips Cup semi-finals. A route back to the Premier Division then opened following changes elsewhere in the league.
2022–23 title celebration · manufactured placeholderPersistent rain disrupted 2023–24, but Brislington finished seventh and reached the play-offs. After beating Radstock Town, the Foxes came from two goals down against Wincanton Town and scored a 93rd-minute winner to secure promotion.
The Reserves reached a cup final, while the U18s won their league after losing only once. Ten members of that youth squad appeared for the First Team during the campaign.
Lee Perks’ final campaign closed one chapter. Youth success, further management change and an evolving club environment now shape the story still being written at Ironmould Lane.
The 2024–25 season marked the end of Lee Perks’ long tenure. Back in the Premier Division, Brislington secured a competitive mid-table finish. The U18s enjoyed another strong campaign, reaching deep into the FA Youth Cup, winning the League Cup and continuing to provide players for the senior side.
Further transition followed in 2025–26. Ash Kington initially took charge before choosing to concentrate on playing, with Matt Lewton subsequently overseeing a substantial rebuild. Former player Josh Egan then became the focal point for the next chapter.
The club continued to transform its surroundings and identity. The Arts & Design Residency and wider improvements around Ironmould Lane helped create a stronger, more distinctive sense of place—one supporters could increasingly take pride in.
This is deliberately a living chapter: recent events will be refined as the club’s next era develops.
